Lady Bombers complete perfect regular season

WILBRAHAM – Simply perfect!

The Westfield High School girls’ swim team completed an unbeaten regular season with a 59-43 win over Minnechaug on Tuesday.

“It was an awesome meet,” said Westfield coach Tom Lewis. “It was phenomenal to cap the season.”

Hope Walsh (500 freestyle, 5:22.96), Jordan Jacobson (100 backstroke, 1:03.90), and Erin Lewis (100 breaststroke, 1:11.09) won individual events for Westfield (10-0). All three individuals also combined, along with Genna Senecal, to capture first place in the medley relay (1:59.81).

BOYS’ RESULTS

Minnechaug 58, Westfield 44

Minnechaug spoiled Westfield’s shot at a perfect season in the regular season finale.

Matt Labombard won a pair of events to lead the Bombers (9-1). Labombard took first in the 100 butterfly (58.90) and 100 backstroke (59.32).

Labombard, John Dolan, Jimmy Stinehart, and Allen Whitlock won the medley relay in 1:47.81. Stinehart, Dolan, Brendan Day, and Whitlock just got touched out in the 200 free relay with a season-best 1:33.19.

Day won the 200 free in 1:51.90.

The teams will now enjoy a break before next weekend’s Western Massachusetts swim championships at Springfield College.

SKIING

The Westfield High School girls’ ski team placed fourth in the North Division with a time of 1:18.38 at Berkshire East. The boys were fifth.
