HUNTINGTON: Florence Catherine Powers, age 77, a lifelong resident of Huntington died peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Governor’s Center Skilled Nursing in Westfield, after battling Parkinson’s disease for thirty years.
She was born in Westfield, MA on September 15, 1943 and Florence was the daughter of the late Thomas P. Powers and Florence C. (Gareau) Powers. Florence was raised and educated in the schools of Huntington. She worked for many years as an executive secretary for the former Milton Bradley Company in Springfield and later Hasbro until her retirement. Florence enjoyed many family gatherings over the years, she loved cooking and baking and was well known for her famous Mac & Cheese along with many other delicious recipes and baked goods. She also loved tending to her flower gardens, her numerous dogs and cats she cherished and raised over her lifetime, and traveling to many vacation destinations on her “Girl Trips” with her friends.
Florence is survived by her extended family, including cousins, Leland R. Brennan, Jr., Elizabeth Cummings, Ann Marie Standish, Elizabeth Jones, Paul Rochford, Timothy Rochford, Peter Rochford, Sara Muzzy, Kathleen Rochford, Mary Reed, neighbor and dear friend Harry Pease and her caregiver and friend, Kerri Broga.
Besides being predeceased by her parents, Florence also was predeceased by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Services for Florence will be held at the Graham Hilltown Community Funeral Home, 27 Russell Road in Huntington on Friday, August 27, 2021 with Calling Hours from 11am-12:30 pm followed by an in-house Funeral Service at 12:30 pm conducted by the Rev. Ron F. Sadlowski, Pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Russell. Burial will follow the service at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery in Huntington.
