Free seminar to benefit contractors working in Southwick

SOUTHWICK – Sponsored by the Town of Southwick, a seminar on the 2015 IECC (International Energy Conservation Code) will be taking place on Tuesday May 9 at the Southwick Fire station. The event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This free seminar focuses on the 2015 IECC that the town of Southwick Building Inspector Art Lawler made effective on January 1, 2017.

According to Lawler, the seminar is open to anyone, but general contractors, HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning) contractors, home builders, building officials, and architects are tradespeople he strongly suggests to attend.

Mark Newey, who is an employer with the CET (Center for Eco Technology), will be the guest speaker. Newey is a certified Home Energy Rater, Green Rater, Passive House Consultant, and BPI Analyst.

Using Newey in the past for seminar’s when he was the building inspector for the town of Ware, Lawler is looking forward to bringing Newey to Southwick as a guest speaker.

“He has a lot of hands-on experience,” said Lawler. “He really knows the job.”

Lawler said that Newey’s talk will be a benefit for any contractors moving forward with their clients.

“When everybody knows what the new codes are up front, everything goes smoothly,” said Lawler.

There are also changes from the 2012 IECC that attendees will want to be aware of.

Pre-registration is required in order to attend this event. You can go to the town of Southwick website and click on the IECC link in order to register.

Lawler also added that the IECC seminar is the start of a series of outreach programs that he will continue to do in the future, including pools, decks, and wood stoves.
