Garden Club Creativity Flourishes at ‘Yuletide’ Celebration

WEST SPRINGFIELD-The Gilbert Farmstead Parlor will be adorned with all-natural decorations from the Garden Club of the Westfield Woman’s Club during Storrowton Village Museum’s annual Yuletide at Storrowton.

Along with Westfield’s Garden Club, area garden clubs, florists and designers will donate their time, creativity and materials to decorate the village during its free winter holiday festival, Dec. 3 and 4, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition.

The Master Gardeners of Storrowton are overseeing the decorating project alongside Yuletide coordinator Thelma Greene who is managing all event decorating. Visitors are welcome to take photographs and notes to recreate the arrangements for their own homes.

Garden clubs and florists also participating include the Wilbraham Garden Club, decorating the Schoolhouse; Flowers by Webster, of Westfield, the Eddy Law Office; Merry Mites of Suffield, Conn., Blacksmith Shop; Springfield Garden Club, Potter Mansion Entry and Parlor; West Springfield Garden Club, Potter Mansion Dining Room; Agawam Garden Club, Potter Mansion Kitchen; Rose Petal and Thorn, of West Springfield, Gilbert Farmstead Entry and Sitting Room; East Longmeadow Garden Club, Gilbert Farmstead Kitchen, and area decorator Pat Byrne, of South Hadley, will create Della Robia fruit boards.

During the two-day event, visitors can explore the village on a self-guided tour and experience the old-fashioned holiday fun of storytelling, ice sculpting, musical performances and Early American craft demonstrations. Santa is also expected to drop in during the event.

Also, visitors can view the intricate decorations during Storrowton’s Open House Tours Dec. 6-10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a Lantern Light Tour on Dec. 7, 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for the open house and lantern light tours; children under six are admitted free.

During the Yuletide weekend, the village’s specialty shops will be open including the Storrowton Village Gift Shop in the Phillips House, the Christmas Shop and the Holiday Sweet Shoppe, both in the Potter Mansion.
