WESTFIELD – Daniel Howard, the General Manager of Westfield Gas & Electric Light Department, will be the guest of the Rotary Club of Westfield at their regular weekly meeting Tuesday, October 29, and will address the Rotarians and their guests.
Howard is a 29-year employee of the municipal utility and has served as the general manager since April of 2009.
As the leader of the G&E, Howard has over seen the expansion of the Buck Pond Substation to meet the growing demand for electric supply on the north side of the city, coordinated the design and installation of the Southwick Lateral natural gas main installation and the made great strides achieved by the installation and expansion of a fiber optic network which supports the city, its schools and many businesses with data and internet traffic needs.
The network has also made possible an automated meter reading program now being installed by WG&E.
During his tenure as leader of the utility, the G&E has been recognized nationally as a Reliable Public Power Provider, a designation specified by the American Public Power Association.
Howard earned degrees from American International College and Western New England College and is a Certified Utility Safety Administrator.
His professional affiliations Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Public Power Association, Utility Telecommunications Council, Northeast Public Power Association, American Gas Association and Northeast Gas Association.
He chairs the Western Massachusetts Public Utilities Cooperative.
In the city, Howard serves as a trustee for the Noble Visiting Nurse and Hospice Services and the St. Mary’s Advancement Board.
