Local squads finish strong

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls’ soccer team closed out its regular season with a 2-1 win over Pittsfield late Friday at Bullens Field.
Beka Santiago (4th minute) and Alicia Arnold (25th minute) scored first-half goals on passes from Haley Mason and Caroline Senecal, respectively, for Westfield.
Bombers’ goalie Jules Sharon made 14 saves.
Jesse Pratt was also outstanding for Westfield, patrolling the field at center-back.
“She cleaned up basically everything that Pittsfield threw at us,” Bombers’ coach Keith Saltmarsh said.
Allie Supranowicz scored the lone goal for Pittsfield late in the second half.
Southwick 3, Sabis 0
Ashley Shea, Natalie Jensen, and Lydia Kinsman tallied a collective hat trick for Southwick. Shea and teammate Brittany Munson had one assist each.
Rams’ goalie Meg Zabik (10 saves) earned a shutout in net.

Southwick 1, Sabis 0

McKenzie Frey scored the game-winner for Southwick-Tolland Regional. Rams’ goalie Kayla Bergendale collected 15 saves in a shutout.
Southwick finishes the season 7-8-1.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Westfield Voc-Tech 7, Pathfinder 1

Voc-Tech, spurred on by the fact that it had received news of being seeded second in the vocational tournament, rode to a big victory. Alex Makarchuk (4 goals), Dimitry Stepanchuk (goal), Tyler Hall (goal), Laxmi Basnet (goal) all scored for the Tigers.
JV RESULTS
Southwick 0, Chicopee Comp 0
Southwick finished the regular season with a 12-2-1 record. The Rams outscored their opponents 44-7 over the course of the 15-game season, including 10 shutouts.
Brandon Castor (11 goals, 3 assists) finished as the team’s high scorer, followed by Matt Daley (7 goals, 4 assists), and Dylan Buscemi (5 goals, 4 assists)
Brett Geddis, Riley O’Connor, Will Pratt, and Matt Lecrenski stood out defensively, and Jack Lebo, Hogun Kang, and Dan McClellan delivered strong midfield play.
Dan Sullivan and Adam Jensen were solid in goal.

JV RESULTS
Westfield 6, Amherst 1

Westfield capped off an amazing season with an outstanding record of 13-1-2 by defeating host Amherst Regional High 6-1 in their final game of the 2013 season.
Captain Brooke Keeney scored the first goal of the game unassisted at 6:57 in the first half to put the Lady Bombers on the scoreboard and in the lead 1-0 at the end of the half. Fellow Captain Grace Silva took charge of the game with her second half hat trick. All three goals were impressively scored and gave Westfield a commanding lead. Teammates Marissa Otero and Jill Wroth scored the other two Westfield goals.
Silva, Otero and Alexis Shia were all credited with assists in the second half.
Westfield goalkeeper Jenna Rothermel made two saves in goal.
Longmeadow was the only team able to beat this group of talented players. With 16 games played, the JV Bombers scored a total of 66 goals versus 17 by their opponents.
“It was a great season with a lot of team success and individual growth,” Westfield JV coach Linda Rowbotham said. “As tournament time approaches, several JV Lady Bombers will continue to practice with hopes of Varsity play.”
