WESTFIELD – George L. Nicoletta, 96, of Westfield, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday March 1, 2013 at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. He was born in Hartford, CT to the late James and Mary (Moore) Nicoletta and resided in Southwick for many years before moving to Westfield.
George was employed as a Produce Manager for Sweet Life his entire career, traveling throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. He was drafted into the Military at the age of 26, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Southwick and was a New York Yankees and Patriots Fan. George enjoyed meeting his friends for lunch at The Royal, Mrs. Murphy’s and the Summer House. He loved attending family cookouts and visiting with his grandchildren. George’s long life was a result of his healthy lifestyle. He was an avid walker who put on his pedometer daily and walked the neighborhood until the age of 93. He was honored as a life member of the Southwick Country Club where he golfed until he was 90. He was also a member of the Westfield YMCA for 50 years. He served on the Southwick Fire Commission for many years and was a former member of the American Legion Post 124 in Westfield.
George is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Frances (Lamitie) Nicoletta of Westfield; his son, John Nicoletta and his wife Christina of Southwick; his daughter, Kathy Heroux and her husband Raymond of South Carolina; two step-daughters, Diane Igel and her husband David of Huntington, MA and Lynne Wolfe and her husband Leonard of Chester, MA; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine along with his eight siblings.
All services and burial will be private for the family. Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
