George L. Wheelock

Wheelock RIGHT obit picHAVERHILL, MA – George L. Wheelock, 73, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, MA. He was born in Holyoke, MA, son of the late William F. Wheelock and the late Henrietta A. (Beattie) Wheelock.
He graduated from Westfield High School, Westfield in 1958 and earned his degree from North Shore Community College, Beverly, MA in 1990. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Air National Guard of Massachusetts in 1969. He worked as a house painter for his father’s business before switching to a career in computers and technology.  He worked as a Computer Test Engineer for Compugraphic/Agfa in Wilmington, MA for over 20 years, and as a consultant at other firms until he retired.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alice (Polmatier) Wheelock of Haverhill, MA and three daughters, Suzanne and her husband, Mark Tilton of Haverhill, MA, Doreen and her husband, Geoffrey McAuley of Lynn, MA and Quartermaster First Class Petty Officer Dominique D. Wheelock, US Navy, Washington, D.C. He will always be remembered as “The Grand Poobah” to his six grandchildren; Markie, Mickie, Jesse, Jaime, Caleb, and Brian. He is also survived by five sisters, Louise Gillis, Alyce Burek, Nancy Desjardins, Judith Loraw and April Romeo; two brothers, William Wheelock and Kenneth Wheelock; and many, many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by brothers, Ernest and David.
He enjoyed donating his time to Haverhill Community Television, and was proud to have earned the award for Volunteer of the Year in 2012. Together with his wife, he valued his time spent being a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Service on Friday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer Street, Haverhill. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 24th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.at the Funeral Home.
