Glenn Alan Korostynski

WESTFIELD – More than anything, Glenn Korostynski was a builder.

As a young boy growing up on Jefferson Street, he spent his time gardening and tending to irises in the side yard. As a young man, he built restaurants and nightclubs, taking pride in hosting his expansive community of friends at the Rusty Nail in downtown Westfield or the Four Seasons in Southampton. He built successful development companies, including Sunnyside Corporation and Richfield Realty and GAK Development.

But most of all, he loved building and restoring homes where families could live their lives and raise their children. More than a thousand homes in and around Westfield. So many homes, his friends say that he built at least one house on every street in town.

Glenn was born in Westfield, Massachusetts on November 11, 1948. His mother, Mildred Kousch (Dubois) and his father, Metlei Korostynski, both now deceased, took tremendous pride in their only son, and he took his responsibility to them and his family seriously, stepping in often to ensure they had a good roof over their head or a car to drive or money for a nephew to pay for college.

He graduated Westfield High School in 1966 and joined the US Air Force Reserve, where he proudly served 7 years. He served in many capacities in the community, including on the Board of the Pine Hill Cemetery and the Westfield License Commission.

Glenn leaves behind a large and extensive community of family, friends and fans, including his former wife and partner Martha Korostynski and his two stepdaughters Caitlin Scannell and Kylie Hensley; sisters Judith Garvey and Sherrie and her husband William Sperry; his nieces and nephews Shawn Garvey, Scott Garvey, Kara Garvey and Nathan Sperry; his former wife and friend Betty Korostynski; and his friends at his favorite place to spend time, the Tavern Restaurant.

Those who knew him knew that his best and most loyal companion in life was always his dog, and he was blessed with some special ones who were drawn to his generous and affectionate heart.

Calling hours for Glenn will be held on Thursday, May 4th at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm. A service will follow at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of Pine Hill Cemetery, 140 West Silver Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
