Granville firefighters receive certifications

GRANVILLE – Two volunteers of the Granville Fire Department received their firefighter 1 certifications last week. Cole Provost and Taylor Warren are now certified interior firefighters, which means they can battle any fire that occurs inside a home.

It’s a step that Granville Fire Chief Matt Ripley sees as a benefit for both individuals and the department.

“When they come out of firefighter 1, they are exposed to all the elements of firefighting,” said Ripley.

Provost and Warren graduated from the same class at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Hartford. The academy started in September and finished during the first week of December.

The academy consisted of a mix of two live burnings, numerous practical trainings, and also classroom training.

Having aspirations to become a paramedic, Warren is eager to take the next step in her career.

“It’s really exciting for me,” said Warren. “I’m hoping to get some experience and help this community the best that I can.”

With the hope of being a police officer in the future, Provost got into firefighting in order to gain valuable experience in emergency services.

“It’s nice to be official and be able to give back to the community,” said Provost. “It just feels nice to be a bigger part of the picture.”
