Greater Westfield Y searches for new leader

WESTFIELD – The Greater Westfield YMCA is searching for a new chief executive officer.
YMCA Board of Directors President Eric Hall said former CEO Gregg Thompson and the board were going in different directions.
“His service ended last week,” said Hall of Thompson. “The board wanted to go in a different direction and the best way to do that is a change in leadership.”
Hall stressed that Thompson “did nothing wrong or inappropriate. It came down to differing opinions.”
Hall expects the board to select an interim CEO this week, possibly later today. He said they are still considering their options.
“YUSA has a bank of retired CEOs who step in short-term in these situations, so we are looking at hiring someone like that, and we are seeing if there is someone on staff who can fill in,” said Hall.
Hall said generally a YMCA CEO search takes four to six months. The Greater Westfield YMCA is conducting a national search for its CEO.
The YMCA staff has really stepped up in the last week, Hall said.
“Right now Rosann Scalise (director of program operations) is handling daily operations and the entire staff has pulled together,” Hall said. “I am really impressed with the staff.”
The Westfield Y has a 20-member board and a staff of about 100.
