Greta Anne Greenburg

AGAWAM: Greta Anne Greenburg (nee Lowy) passed away November 9th, 2021, in Agawam, Massachusetts at the age of 89. Greta was born in New Jersey to Maxine and Richard Lowy, raised in Montclair and West Orange, and graduated from University of Michigan. She moved to Manhattan where she had a few jobs including modeling at Bonwit Teller and working for a publisher. She soon was married to Henry Greenburg, to whom she was married until his death in 2000. After becoming a mother, the couple moved to Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. A creative artistic soul and women’s libber, Greta then moved the family (by now 3 girls altogether) to a spectacular original home of her own design also in Hastings. She became a realtor, for John P. Streb & Son and Caldwell Banker. Greta was known for her hard work ethic, compassionate care towards clients and community, and the famed New Year’s Day Parties she threw with Henry, where he made all the savory dishes and Greta made the desserts. An artist, architect, and original DIY-er, Greta had a wonderful sense of humor, friendly smile for everyone, and a tireless spirit. She spent the last 16 years of her life as a resident of Westfield and Agawam.

She is survived by her 3 daughters (Laura, Jennifer & Cynthia), their spouses, her six grandchildren (Ron, Ben, Kate, Grace, Hannah & Isaac, and all their respective partners), her brother Richard Lowy and his wife Marcy, her sister in-law Betsey Ely, and her many extended family and dear friends.

She now joins those who pre-deceased her, welcoming her with open arms: her partner in life, Henry, her grandson Joseph Giffune, Jr., and her brother in-law Kenny Greenburg. She will be so greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in Greta’s honor.
