Norine was a cherished member of her community and the beloved matriarch of her family. Norine’s early education began at St. Mary’s School, where she attended both elementary and high school. She continued her academic journey at Westfield State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1956. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher in Westfield, where she dedicated over 30 years to nurturing young minds. Summers were a special time for Norine and Thomas, as they fondly spent them in Cape Neddick, Maine, creating lasting memories with family and many friends. She was an avid skier and a proud member of the Blandford Ski Club for over 40 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. Norine was also an active member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Sons of Erin Auxiliary, and the Westfield Women’s Club. Additionally, she was involved with the Massachusetts Teachers Association and enjoyed singing with the Do Re Mi Senior Singers at the Westfield Senior Center.

Norine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, with whom she shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, and her two brothers, Neil and Brendan.

She leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Susan Begley and Loretta Begley. Norine’s legacy lives on through her extensive family. Her children include Mary Faith LeBlanc (Christopher), Thomas Balukonis II (Joan), Christopher Balukonis (Kristine), and Brian Balukonis (Dawn). Her grandchildren, who fondly referred to her as Mamo, include Christopher LeBlanc; Marissa Smithies (Dave Smithies); Vanessa LeBlanc (Max Miller); Alexandra Balukonis (Britt Wohler); Max Balukonis (Nicole Boutin); Samuel Balukonis; Jennifer Murray (Jessie), expecting a soon-to-be great-grandchild; Benjamin Balukonis; Simon Censor (Ariel); and Courtney Reed.
