WESTFIELD – Harry W. Rainey Jr., 91, died Monday, October 1, 2012 in Noble Hospital. He was born in Athol, MA on March 22, 1921 to the late Harry W. and Edna (Peeso) Rainey.
He grew up in Westfield where he spent most of his life and was a 1938 graduate of Westfield High School. He received his B.A. in Accounting from A.I.C. in 1942. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WW-2. Harry was in the Air Force Reserves for many years and retired in 1981. He worked for Columbia Manufacturing Company in Westfield and was a V.P. of Sales and retired in 1987. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield. He enjoyed golfing, reading, old western movies, big band, and was a Yankees and Patriots fan. Harry played the clarinet and saxophone in the American Legion Band for many years.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Jean (Templeton) Rainey; his children, Philip J. Rainey and his wife Deborah of Ludlow, Patricia J. Trzasko of Huntington, and Pamela J. Martell and her husband Donald of Wilbraham. He also leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Harry was pre-deceased by his son, Peter J. Rainy in 2001 and his sister, Barbara Rainey in 2006.
The funeral for Harry will be held on Friday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service Inc., 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
