Helen L. Gornall

WESTFIELD– Helen L Gornall, 91, died Friday, February 22, 2019 in Baystate Noble Hospital. She was born April 15, 1927 in Winsted, CT to the late Nicholas and Margaret (Carrozza) Angino. Raised in Winsted, she graduated from St. Anthony’s parochial school and then Gilbert High School in 1944. She was a 1947 graduate of the Henry W. Bishop School of Nursing in Pittsfield, MA while a member in the Nurse Cadet Corps. After graduating, she worked at Winsted Hospital. She married Rayburn H. Gornall in 1950. She has been a resident of Westfield since 1952. Helen was a Registered Nurse at many local hospitals including Baystate, Cooley-Dickinson, Mercy, Noble and Wesson for 45 yrs retiring in 1992. She was a passionate world traveler who also enjoyed camping, cooking, country music, fall foliage, gardening, reading, sewing, skiing and square dancing. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly, and spending time with family and friends. She was compassionate, forgiving and kind, always looking for the good in people. She was a member of the Stella Di Italia Club in Springfield. She was pre-deceased by her husband Rayburn H. Gornall in 2013. She leaves her children Jeffrey W. Gornall and his wife Julie of St. Petersburg, FL, Gail E. Kelliher and her husband Michael of Longmeadow, Scott R. Gornall and his wife Sarah of Spofford, NH. She also leaves her grandchildren Stuart, Justin, Katlyn and Elisabeth and great-grandchildren Bryant, Logan and Colin, her sisters Dolores Roberts of Bantam, CT and Jeanne Mulville of Torrington, CT. She was pre-deceased by her infant son Mark Andrew Gornall and sisters Vivian Wolfe and Christine Gronski. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 26th from 11am to 1pm at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. A service will follow at 1 pm. Burial to be held in the spring, at Pine Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Memphis, TN. Firtionadams.com
