WESTFIELD – On Saturday, May 5th, the Westfield-West Springfield Elks will host a home furnishings drive for the benefit of Homeward Vets, a homeless veteran’s support organization. The drive will be held from 8 am until Noon at Stanley Park, Westfield in the small parking lot just off Western Ave.
Homeward Vets collects furnishings and stores them in a rented warehouse. When veterans transition into housing, they can go to the warehouse and select items to furnish their new living space. The Elks is a national organization dedicated to supporting our veterans and youth through a number of programs on local, state and national levels.
Among the items needed are working small kitchen appliances such as toasters, toaster ovens, mixers, blenders and microwaves. Also needed are kitchen utensils such as silverware, serving utensils, dishes and pots and pan sets along with dish detergent, cleaning supplies, paper towels and napkins. Donations of cash and grocery store gift cards are also greatly appreciated.
In addition, the Homeward Vets box truck, used to deliver the items to the vets moving in, broke down recently and it is beyond repair. They have established a GoFundMe page, https://www.gofundme.com/fw3vdcgw. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
