HOLYOKE – The Longmeadow High School (WHS Co-Op) girls’ ice hockey team capped off the weekend on a high note.
Longmeadow bounced back from a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Algonquin Saturday at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield to shut out visiting Oakmont 4-0 Sunday at Fitzpatrick Arena.
The Whip City’s female hockey stars played a big role from Lexi Levere – the Westfield native posted a shutout in net – to Madison Pelletier (3 assists) to Mackenzie Pelletier (assist) to Bailey Tymeson (goal).
On Saturday, Longmeadow fell prey to Algonquin’s Kayle Currin’s hat trick.
Katie Joyal started the comeback for the Lancers in the first period with assists from Tess Bonavita and Maddie O’Shea. Karalyn Jones tied the game late in the second, thanks to sharp passing from Madison and Mackenzie Pelletier.
Longmeadow had chances in the third period, but Algonquin goalie Angela Ferro (28 saves) made some fantastic stops to secure the victory. Lancers goalie Kayla Brown finished with 14 saves.
