Humason and Boldyga announce grant for Granville Public Library

Granville, MA – State Senator Don Humason and State Representative Nick Boldyga announced a $5,800 grant to the Granville Public Library on Friday.

“I am very happy to be presenting this check to the Granville Public Library in order to support the important services and programs they offer to the town’s residents,” said Senator Humason. “Libraries big and small are invaluable sources of information for citizens, and I was very proud to be able to secure this funding to provide additional support to our small, rural libraries.”

Humason and Boldyga were joined at the library on Friday afternoon by Byard Miller, who accepted a check on the library’s behalf.

“I’m so pleased that we could assist the Granville Library with all the great work that they do.  Our community is fortunate to have such a great resource.  I look forward to working with Senator Humason to ensure that they will be an invaluable resource for future generations,” said Representative Boldyga.

The money was secured in the state’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget through a successful amendment Senator Humason filed to the Senate budget. Representative Boldyga advocated for the funding in the Legislature’s compromise budget, which was approved and signed into law by the Governor in July 2015. The library will be able to use the grant funds for a variety of purposes, including technology upgrades, infrastructure enhancements, programmatic development, and much more.

“We appreciate Senator Humason and Representative Boldyga’s efforts in obtaining this generous state grant for the Granville Public Library,” said Library Director Mary Short. “These funds will enable us to update and improve the library’s computer technology, which is of special importance to our students and seniors. Additionally it will augment our material budget and building maintenance funds.  This is a tremendous boost to the Granville Public Library.”

In total, $29,000 was included in this year’s budget aimed at supporting the rural, public libraries of Southwick, Tolland, Granville, Montgomery, and Russell. As a result, each town will receive a one-time grant in the amount of $5,800 from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in Fiscal Year 2016.

“We recognize how important the library is to the people of Granville and are delighted to be able to support, in some small way, this vital public institution,” said Humason and Boldyga.
