WESTFIELD – Westfield Post 124 celebrated its first full game in days, following two consecutive days of rainouts, with a key 3-0 win over South Hadley in American Legion Baseball action Wednesday night at Bullens Field.
Westfield pitcher Matt Irzyk got the best of this pitcher’s duel, going the distance and striking out five batters in seven complete innings.
Post 124 (7-2) backed Irzyk, who got stronger throughout the game, with one run in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the sixth.
Nate Barnes and Rob Sullivan executed a successful double steal with Barnes crossing home plate for Westfield’s first run. In the sixth, Ryan Tettemer and Tim Donahue walked and advanced on Sullivan’s RBI sac-fly. Evan Moorhouse drove in the team’s third run with a two-out, run-scoring single.
South Hadley fell to 5-3.
