WESTFIELD – Suffield Academy senior Erin Jachym, of Westfield began her aquatic journey at the YMCA of Greater Westfield around the age of 6. After getting her feet wet in local and regional competitions, Jachym was setting the record books ablaze in the short course for 11-12 year-old girls. She departed the team at age 13 to compete for another local swim club, the Bluefish Swim Club.
A strict routine consisting of 10-20 hours of weekly training targeting daily sessions translated into success.
In 2017, Jachym qualified for the USA Swimming Eastern Zone Championships, finishing as the high point third place winner among girls aged 13-14. Jachym set the NE Swimming 800 yard freestyle relay record in 2018.
Jachym qualified for the USA Swimming Summer/Winter Nationals and Summer/Winter Junior Nationals in 2018, 2019, and 2020. She was named a 2020 USA All-American 500 yard freestyler.
Late last year, Jachym signed her National Letter of Intent to compete for Division I school James Madison University.
“I’m so beyond thrilled and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at James Madison University,” Jachym told Swimming World. “Thank you to all of my coaches, friends/teammates who have helped me get to where I am today, and especially to my mom.”
