WILBRAHAM – The Minnechaug Regional High School girls’ basketball team (1-8) staved off a Westfield rally to win its first game of the season 52-42 Thursday night.
Beka Santiago (13 points) and Melissa Welch each hit a 3-pointer to cut Minnechaug’s lead to single digits late in the fourth quarter, but Westfield (2-8) failed to string together a big run late.
Jules Sharon finished with 11 points for the Bombers.

Southwick 57, Holyoke Catholic  41
Melissa O’Neil scored a game-high 21 points to lead Southwick. Lady Rams’ Maria Collins notched a double-double with 14 rebounds and a career-high 19 points, and Morgan Harriman had 10 points.

JV SCORE
Southwick 30, Holyoke Catholic 15
Jacqui Richard and Jacqui Maziarz delivered eight points apiece for Southwick.

BOYS’ HOOPS
St. Mary’s 55, Pioneer Valley Christian School 50
Alex Jez led St. Mary’s with 14 points and 9 rebounds, Matt Plasse and Anthony Garde contributed nine points each, and Mike Sheridan finished with 7 points and 10 rebounds.

Belchertown 60, Gateway 31
Austin Cook netted 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks for Gateway.

LATE SCORE
Southwick 58, Granby 46
Tommy Mahoney had 18 points for Southwick. Rams’ Mark O’Neill had 10.

SKIING RESULTS
Jenna Rothermel had the best finish for Westfield on Thursday night, capturing fifth place with a time of 27.90 on the GS. Lauren Sheehan (9th, 29.09), Jen Moller (30.51), and Grace Giffune (33.10) contributed to the Lady Bombers 3rd place finish.
Longmeadow’s Camille Burger won the race in 26.68.
On the boys’ side, Tom Pepek led Westfield with a time of 45.86. Longmeadow’s John Mentor won the race (32.13).
