RUSSELL – Janet M. (Hendrick) O’Connell, 94, of Huntington Road died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. She was born May 16, 1918 in Easthampton to the late Nellie (Horr) and Lewis Hendrick.She was formerly employed as a seamstress and tailor for Steiger’s. Before that Janet worked at the Springfield Armory. She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren play different sports. She was an avid traveler and visited every state in the United States. She loved her crossword puzzles and playing Bingo.
She was the beloved widow of Francis O’Connell who died in 1991; loving mother of Michael L. O’Connell and his wife Ellen of Russell and Evelyn M. Mengal and her husband George of East Otis; caring sister of the late Evelyn Hendrick; devoted grandmother of Thomas Hague of Westfield, Michael O’Connell of Westfield, Daniel O’Connell of Russell, Pamela Hague of Hadley, Cynthia Vernon of West Springfield, Leah O’Connell of Easthampton, and Lisa Quinn of Westfield, and great-grandmother of 10.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, August 15th at 9:00 a.m. at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in West Springfield. Burial will be at the Main Street Cemetery in Easthampton, MA. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
