John W. Cullinan

Westfield – John “Jack” W. Cullinan, 75, (1942) passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Westfield to the late James and Margaret (Dillon) Cullinan.  Jack was a 1959 graduate of Cathedral High School. He furthered his education at Westfield State and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1963. Jack worked in the insurance industry for 40 years and was a Vice President in the Claims Department for Marsh USA Inc. retiring in 2007.  While working in the insurance industry Jack traveled extensively throughout the world embracing work and the challenge of travel.  After retiring, Jack earned his Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in History from Westfield State Univeristy in 2011. He was an adjunct professor at Westfield State University for three years teaching U.S. History.  Jack served on the Westfield State Alumni Association Executive Council in 2013-2014.  He was a member of the Sons of Erin in Westfield. Jack was an avid reader, always having a book in his hand,enjoying mystery novels along with anything history related. He was proud of his Irish Heritage, enjoyed taking Gaelic speaking courses along with listening to Irish music. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Football, New England Patriots and Crystal Palace FC fan. He was always generous to his family and to everyone he met. He will be missed for his quick wit, sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. His joy in life was encouraging people to be the best they could be especially his students. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Maryann L. (Criscio) Cullinan of Westfield, his loving children, Michael P. Cullinan, Jon J. Cullinan, both of Westfield and Alison E. Cullinan of Southwick, MA and her companion Michael George, his sisters, Elizabeth Cullinan, Jane Cullinan and Eileen Cullinan, all of West Springfield and Margaret Durocher and her husband Larry of Southwick, many loving nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Sue Andrews and her husband Ed of Westborough, his brother-in-law Bob Stow of Potomac, MD, and his beloved cat Kelsey. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by his sister Mary Ellen Cullinan and his sister-in-law Patricia Stow. Jack’s Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday January 30that 11 AM at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd. Westfield, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield. A Visiting Hour will precede the Mass from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA.
