Jorge Fernandez-Sierra

Worthington – Jorge Fernandez-Sierra passed away Monday, September 19, 2016. He was 92 years old.

Jorge was born August 13, 1924 in Rio Cuarto Argentina to Nicholas Fernandez-Vigil and Maria Fernandez-Sierra.

Jorge, one of seven siblings, studied Chemical Engineering in Argentina before traveling to North America, where he met his future wife Joyce Damaris Stockwood in 1953 while working in Vancouver Canada.

He subsequently worked in Kitimat, British Columbia with the Aluminum Company of Canada, in New York City with an engineering firm as a scale model builder, in Dalton MA with E. D. Jones as a draftsman and engineer; and later at Hill Engineering in Dalton as an engineer specializing in paper production machinery.  He retired in the 1980’s.

In the transition from New York City to Western Massachusetts, Jorge and Damaris bought their home in Worthington in the summer of 1960.  Here they raised their family, became involved in all aspects of town life and called it home as they travelled around the country and the world during retirement.

He is survived by his wife, sister Mary Fernandez-Cofone, his sons Emilio and Illtyd, his grand-children Ramsey and Damaris (Amy), and numerous wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
