Jose L. Masso

WESTFIELD – Jose Luis Texidor Masso, 65, passed on into heavens gates on Thursday, April 18, 2019. Many of you may have known him as Jose but family and close friends knew him as “Chegui.” Jose was born on May 1, 1953 in the town of Guayama, Puerto Rico and raised in Hartford CT and

New York City before spending the remainder of his life in Westfield. Jose was known to be a humble and hardworking man. He gave 25 years to National Envelope as well as dedicating 12 years of military service to the Army National Guard. He spent a few years as a language interpreter at the Westfield City Hall. He also gave a few years working tobacco. Of all his life’s work, his greatest devotion was being a man of God as he practiced his religion deeply with his community at St. Mary’s Church in Westfield. Jose was a very friendly man even to strangers with a simple wave hello and a contagious smile. In his downtime, he enjoyed dancing with his wife and had a love for the game of dominos which Jose and his brother Jose Gilberto would play for hours on end. He had a great love for sports, a devout Patriots fan and WWE but mostly baseball. His favorite team has always been the Boston Red Sox but Jose enjoyed watching his sons play Little League much more. Jose also had a love for pool with which he truly was skilled in and competed in pool tournaments. If you ask people of the Westfield community, almost everyone could tell you a great fact or story about Jose Texidor Masso. He was loved by many, and will forever live on in his loved ones hearts.

Jose leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years Maria Masso, his children Jorge, Miguel, Gladys, Angel, Antonio, Jose, Christina and Daniel. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren, his siblings Jose Gilberto, Leticia, Felicita, Malta and Virginia. He was predeceased by his brother Jose Rafael.  The funeral for Jose will be held on Friday, April 26th at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be private.
