Joseph J. Malcovsky

WESTFIELD- Joseph J. Malcovsky, 64, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 2, 2016 after a courageous 2 year battle against pancreatic cancer. He was born in Westfield to the late John and Katherine (Zales) Malcovsky. Joe worked many years at Columbia Manufacturing in Westfield and with the Carpenter’s Union, before becoming a self-employed home improvement contractor. He later worked as Sexton for the First Congregational Church in Westfield. He was mechanically inclined and known to be able to “fix anything!” He was an avid motorcyclist and loved to ride through the hilltowns on his BMW Honda Goldwing. Additionally, he was an accomplished musician and a huge fan of bluegrass. He formed the Russell Mountain Boys and performed annually at the Amelia Park Summer Concert Series. He played almost all instruments but mostly strings, the Dobro being his favorite. He loved all animals, birds and the environment. He planted flowers and shrubs, vegetables and blueberry bushes. He had a great heart and was known to reach out to all who crossed his path. He was a friend of Bill W. He is predeceased by his mother and father and is survived by his beloved wife Janice, daughters, Marie and Brooke, his brother John of Brattleboro, VT, brother Jerome and his wife Renee of Westfield, his sister Katherine Coache and husband Gene of Westfield, four grandchildren, nephews John, Andrew and Jerry Jr., nieces Emily, Abigail and Andrea Kuhn. He will be immensely missed by all who knew him. Joe’s funeral will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Elm St. Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in Joe’s name may be directed to any reputable organization promoting human and animal rights, such as the Catholic Relief, the Westfield Homeless Cat Project, Springfield Rescue Mission and Mercy Hospital to name a few.    www.firtionadams.com
