Westfield – Joyce Louise (Raymond) Smith, 71, (1945 – 2017) of Westfield, passed away Friday April 7th at the Governor’s Center in Westfield. Born in Springfield to the late Alfred and Vera (Rochford) Raymond, she was a graduate of Longmeadow High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from UMASS in Amherst. Joyce was a Teacher for many years, spending most of her career with the Church of Atonement Nursery School in Westfield. She was an avid reader and enjoyed shopping, spending time by the pool and all animals, especially her K-9 companion, Celia. But most of all she loved her children and her grandchildren dearly.
She is survived by her three children, Matthew Smith (Erin) of East Longmeadow, Christopher Smith (Kara) of Westfield and Megan Garcia (Eli) of Northampton; four grandchildren, Michaella, Sophie, Shane and Charlotte and her nieces and nephew, Cindy, Pat, Kate, Karen, Virginia and James. Joyce was very excited for the arrival of her newest grandson this year, Noah James Garcia. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James F. Smith in 2016 and by her two sisters, Patricia O’Dell and Audrey Morrell.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday April 12th from 5 – 7 PM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Hwy. A graveside service will be will be held on Thursday April 13th at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
