Juana (Juanita) Estrada

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Juana (Juanita) Estrada was a loving mother, abuela, sister, and friend. She battled and fought cancer two previous times and won. After her final battle with cancer yet again she passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022, surrounded by friends and family.

A resident of West Springfield, and former resident of Westfield for over twenty years. Juana (Juanita) was born in Juncos, Puerto Rico to Eusebio Estrada and Ines Martinez on October 28, 1944. She arrived in Westfield in 1972 from Puerto Rico.

Juana (Juanita) was a kind, caring, loving, and giving person who always put the needs of her family and others before her own. Wherever she was she was always welcoming to those she knew and strangers alike, no matter who you were or your circumstances if she could help, she would. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.

Juana is survived by her three sons, J.R. Estrada and his wife Gisele of Stafford, VA, Miguel Gonzalez of West Springfield, and Jerry Estrada of West Springfield along with her grandchildren Justice Estrada, Amaya Estrada, Alize Gonzalez, and Dominic Estrada. Her brother Josue Estrada and his wife Maria of Meriden, CT, along with her siblings in Puerto Rico David, Elliot, Alejandrina (Tomasita), Iris, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Juana is predeceased by her parents Eusebio and Ines Estrada and two of her sisters Victoria and Epifania (Tita). The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful healthcare workers especially the nurses at Mercy Medical Center that took such loving and exceptional care of Juana, especially her neighbors Auria and Christina and family friend Zenaida Perez.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Juana’s name may be directed to the Gift of Light Program Supporting Patients of the Sister Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center, 271 Carew Street, Springfield, MA.
Memorial service will be held in Juncos, Puerto Rico. Details are forthcoming.
