WESTFIELD – Westfield Youth Hockey’s Bantam A team hosted Ludlow’s Bantam A team at Amelia Park Ice Arena recently to determine the winner of MA Hockey District 6.
Westfield soundly defeated Ludlow 9-1 to advance to the Tier III State Championship in Winthrop March 6-8. Cameron Russell and Alex Beauchmin netted hat tricks to lead the Junior Bombers, with additional goals from Joey Czarnecki, Charlie Bonatakis, and Scotty Bussell.
Aiden McBride tallied Ludlow’s lone goal.
Westfield outshot Ludlow by a whopping 47-8.
The Junior Bombers were anchored by a strong defense, comprised of Liam Webster, Wyatt Jensen, Devin Baker and Bonatakis. Matt Brady was the net minder for Westfield, making some critical saves in the second period which ensured that Ludlow was not able to gain any momentum.
“Our strong fore-checking has been key for us all season and this was no different,” Westfield coach Denis Cloutier said. “We are playing well as a team and are looking forward to representing Westfield in the state tournament.”
Westfield, seated atop its league with a record of 15-2, also won a tournament in Hanover, N.H., on Thanksgiving weekend.
The current roster includes: Matt Brady, Alex Beauchemin, Scotty Bussell, Joey Czarnecki, Cameron Russell, Daniel Antonellis, Charlie Bonatakis, Wyatt Jensen, Quinn Powers, Devin Baker, Nikata Chepurin, Liam Webster and Spencer Cloutier.
The team is coached by Cloutier and assistants Joe Antonellis and Joe Czarnecki.
