WESTFIELD – Kenneth Johnson Wood, 76, peacefully passed away on January 1st surround by the love of his girls at the Suffield House ending his 7-1/2 year journey with Vascular Dementia/Alzheimer’s. Born on January 21, 1946, in Westfield, MA to Margaret and Howel Wood. Kenneth was raised in Westfield and graduated from Westfield Trade School. After high school, he married his love of his life, Jane (Sadowski). Together they raised two girls, Rebecca Wood and Melissa Galczynski. For most of his life he worked for Agway and then finished his career at Westfield Air National Guard Base in 2015. Kenneth loved spending time at the beach, especially yearly vacations with his family. Besides the beach, he was always up for a weekend away or a ride anywhere, a cigar, and shared his love of trains with his grandchildren Elizabeth and Andrew Galczynski. He was the most gentle loving man with impeccable manners, was the perfect patient; always there to help or visit someone. His smile will never be forgotten.
Kenneth is survived by his loving, caring wife of 55 years as well as his caregiver, daughters Rebecca Wood and her partner Len Larabee, Melissa Galczynski and her husband Darren, two grandchildren Elizabeth and Andrew Galczynski, brother Curtis Wood and his wife Bridget, brother-in-law Raymond and his wife Christine Sadowski and as well as his nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Howel Wood, his in-laws Raymond and Pauline Sadowski, and his nephew Curtis Wood.
His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who assisted him at the Suffield House, as well as his hospice nurses that had his final days being so peaceful.
Calling hours for Kenneth will be held on Thursday, January 5th, at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield from 4-6:30 pm. A service will follow at 6:30 pm.
