Kevin Harraghy

WESTFIELD: Kevin Harraghy, 67, died at home Tuesday from the effects of a lingering illness. Born in Westfield in 1953, he was the son of William and Mary Harraghy. He graduated from St. Mary’s High and continued his education at Northeastern University, finishing his business degree at WNEC. He was a true son of Westfield and relished his time serving on the city council and as an appointee to the Gas and Electric Commission. He worked first in food services and then, was employed by the Mass Department of Taxation. One of his assignments was checking tax receipts for restaurants. It allowed him to drive all over the state…..he was better than a GPS at devising routes and shortcuts. He was loyal to his friends, loved his house at the Cape, enjoyed the races at Saratoga, and sports networks on cable T.V. He took great pride as one of the founding members of the SONS OF ERIN; outside of his home, the club was a frequent source of camaraderie and many social occasions.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary. His survivors include his sister, Cathy, of Amherst and Carol Carey of Denver, as well as his two nieces, Megan Robert, her husband, Jeff and their sons, Owen and Gabe, and Rachel Carey, all of Denver. His family appreciates the devotion of his friends, especially Dennis Moran, who was unstinting in his generosity and care.

There will be no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to the SONS OF ERIN BUILDING FUND, 22 William Street, Westfield, MA 01085. In summer, if the pandemic has eased, there will be a commemorative party at the Sons of Erin in Westfield. Kevin would not have wanted tears but laughter, come with your stories and memories.
