Kris A. Sanders

SOUTHWICK – Kris A. Sanders, 64, (1959–2023) passed away on May 14, 2023. Born in Springfield MA on May 13th, 1959, a son of the late William “Ken” Sanders and Judith (Wohlgemuth) Sanders, he graduated from Southwick High School in 1977. While he was a student, he participated on the Cross Country Team, played JV baseball, played the tuba and sousaphone in the band and sang in the concert choir. After graduation, he went on to earn associate degrees in Business and Communication from Holyoke Community College. He also was ordained by Universal Life Ministries.

At the age of 11, his working career began when Kris worked at Edgewood Golf Course. From age 20–25, he worked full time for his father. For almost 20 years, Kris was employed as a Salesman for Southwoods Magazine and then at Leisure Time Canvas and Awnings from 2005-2006 and 2018 to present.

Music was Kris’ life passion. He was a professional disc jockey for 42 years. He enjoyed being part of many weddings, reunions and special events. He also hosted karaoke at different venues and had a dedicated following. He would join in with his own beautiful singing voice.

In his spare time, Kris enjoyed watching all New England Sports, playing in a golf league at Edgewood Golf Course and playing in a Pitch League in West Springfield. As a 22-year member of the Elks Lodge, Kris served as an Exalted Ruler from 2005–2006 and as an Officer for 12 years.

Besides his parents, Kris was predeceased by his sister Deborah Marsters and his sister-in-law, Susan (Bates) Sanders. To cherish his memory, he leaves his brothers Kirk Sanders and his significant other Angela Whittaker and Ken Sanders; his sister Dawn Sanders Turgeon and her husband Ted; his nieces and nephews, Kyle Sanders (Halie), Jessie-Fern Slyne (Mike), Kimberlie St. George (Sam), Christopher Turgeon, Benjamin Turgeon, Jennifer Stehmen and Matthew Turgeon; his great-niece Olive; his significant other Christine Wilson as well as many close friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 9 a.m.–12 noon at Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 624 College Highway, Southwick. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Southwick Congregational Church, 488 College Highway, Southwick.
