WESTFIELD – Commerce scored three second-half goals, including two unanswered in the final 7-plus minutes to defeat host Westfield Voc-Tech 3-1 yesterday.
Commerce scored the game’s first goal in the 44th minute.
Voc-Tech tied the game at 1-1 with about eight minutes remaining on a goal from Alex Makurchuk. Makurchuk scored on a pass from Colin Fecteau.
But 30 seconds later, Commerce worked the ball down field on the ensuing possession and scored. With Voc-Tech’s defense leaning toward the offensive side of the ball trying to net the equalizer, the Red Raiders added an insurance goal.
“We’ve had a hard time finishing right now,” said Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude. “We had a lot of scoring chances.”
Sixteen shots, in fact.
“They were just not hard quality shots,” said Dulude, also noting the Tigers’ failure to follow through on rebounds. “We gave a great effort. We have nothing to hang our heads about. Hopefully, we’ll learn from today and move on.”
It was the first loss of the season for Voc-Tech (1-1), who rallied past Putnam 2-1 last Friday.
Also, in other games, Southwick-Tolland hosted Belchertown. No results were available as of press time this morning.
