PERU- Leo Lemelin of Peru, passed away on May 26, 2015 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Leo and his wife, June, were longtime residents of Springfield, Ma until moving to Peru eight years ago. Once in the Berkshires, Leo greatly enjoyed spending time with the horses and goats and working with his tractor on their small farm. He will be sorely missed by his faithful dogs who were his constant companions.
Leo was employed at Sullivan Paper Company in West Springfield until he retired four years ago.
Besides his wife, June of fifty years, he leaves a son Peter Lemelin of Ludlow, Ma, a daughter Michele Smith and her husband Paul of Granville, MA, and two grandchildren, Peter Lemelin Jr. and Jaclyn Lemelin, and three great grandsons. He also leaves two sisters, Jeannette Belanger of North Adams, Alice Hunt of North Adams, a sister-in-law, Linda Major of Connecticut,and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at The Dery & Foley Funeral Home, 890 East Main Road, Dalton, MA at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2 with a reception to follow at Ozzie’s Steak & Eggs in Hinsdale.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made through the Funeral Home to the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston, Hospice of the Berkshires, or The Berkshire Humane Society of Pittsfield.
