WESTFIELD – Let the (postseason) games begin!
After surviving a delayed start to the season, a jam-packed scheduled with little reprieve, and two tough losses to Longmeadow, the defending west sectional champion Westfield High School boys’ lacrosse team is about to embark on another postseason journey.
On Friday, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association unveiled the Central-West Division 2 boys’ lacrosse tournament seedings, and there was little surprise as to the top two teams in the 16-team tournament field.
Westfield (15-2) drew the No. 2 seed and will host 15th-seeded Chicopee Comp (11-5) Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Bombers ran roughshod over their competition this season, losing only to the Longmeadow Lancers (twice).
Longmeadow (17-3), which earned the overall No. 1 seed, defeated Westfield 10-8 in a midseason tilt and 13-6 Tuesday.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL: The Westfield Bombers boys’ volleyball team (No. 2 seed, 16-2 record) will host No. 7 East Longmeadow (12-7) in a Division 1 quarterfinal Monday at 6:30 p.m.
The Spartans swept the 10th seeded Holyoke Purple Knights (9-10) in three straight sets in first round postseason action to earn a meeting with the Bombers.

TRACK & FIELD: The West-Central Division high school track and field championships will be decided Saturday.
The Westfield boys’ and girls’ teams travel to Fitchburg State University for the Division 1 championships.

The Division 2 crown will be decided at Westfield State University. Both events begin at 10 a.m.
The Southwick boys’ track and field team claimed the Division 2 district title Friday at Wahconah Regional High School, and will look to carry that momentum over into the weekend.
Another local favorite to watch is Holyoke Catholic’s Julie Carroll, of Southwick who won the girls’ two-mile race (11:50.26) at districts last weekend.

KEY POSTESEASON DATES: Tournament brackets for the following sports will be announced in the coming week: baseball (June 1), softball (June 2), and boys’ and girls’ team tennis (June 2).
