To the Editor,
I want to thank our Western Massachusetts state representatives who stood up for human service workers across the Commonwealth to provide “hazard pay.” At Berkshire County Arc, staff members risk their own health, and their families’, to care for individuals in group homes in Hampden and Berkshire counties who have developmental disabilities and brain injuries. These are people who need our help to live safe and potentially full lives. Hazard pay raises employee earnings during the COVID-19 crises.
While many people helped make this happen—including our staff who sent hundreds of letters to the Governor—I want to specifically thank the Western Massachusetts delegation for representing human service workers across the Commonwealth.
