Letter to the Editor: In support of Neal and responsibilities

To the Editor,

Hi folks…First, I see that Cong. Neal is going to have some opposition.  While I have known Cong. Neall since he first ran for Springfield City Council, we have had our agreements and disagreements.  But, one thing I do know about him is that he has depth perception when it comes to governing.  He has done a lot, and continues to do a lot for this district.  Of late there are those complaining about his handling the Trump tax returns issue.  Ritchie is through and does not readily jump to conclusions.  He is most through, thus better able to win in a political contest.  Sound good to please the audience is not his style.  Have your facts, and win; is.  It is my sincerest hope that you will all join with me, next year to support his reelection.

I am forever urging people to live up to their responsibilities as Americans, and that is to participate in our governance; and this is an easy place to start.   H-2037, Nero’s Bill, a legislative act to fund medical treatment of police dogs.  Yes, you all know my affections for dogs, and other animals.  And, as you know vet costs are expensive.  Many a town or city budget is limited, thus the cost for the treatment of their police dogs is limited.  This Bill would have the Commonwealth contribute to paying for those costs.  Please join with me in contacting your State Rep., and Senator to urge their support for this bill.  And, this would be a good opportunity to use your social network, to ask friends, and family outside this area to do likewise.  Thank you!

A more local issue, is something I have followed from out of state.  And, that is students enabled to have mental health days added in with their sick days.  With the serious rise the number of people living with depression, anxiety, and who are committing suicide, Oregon, has stated to do this.  I know it can get complicated, but if it saves the lives of our youth…why not try it.  So, this time contact your City Councilors, and School Committee members to check it out and come up with a plan to do this.  Hey, we hire them, and we pay for them, and all that they do, and don’t do…  Exercise your authority!  Ok for my factious part.  Have you followed in the news how much money towns and cities are raking in from taxes on cannabis sales?

Lastly a quote from Jerod Kushner from New York Observer editor, Elizabeth Spiers who asked him about his father-in-law, Donald Trump’s repeated claims that Obama was not born in the U.S., to which Kushner told her: “He doesn’t really believe it, Elizabeth. He just knows Republicans are stupid and they’ll buy it.”  And, a few other amusing quotes from reliable sources: I cannot help it but, someone working for Trump has been reported saying, regarding Native American opposition to an oil pipeline going through their reservation:  whose response was these people who “break into our country” and “steal resources.”Who stole the land, minerals, bison, wolves, fish and other natural resources?  And, another saying  ‘Native Indians’ snuck into the continent and stole the land and resources.  Go back to your country if you don’t like this country or its history.  This is their country. They were here first.  Really? They don’t look British at all.  Another fellow griped about Hispanics who use the Mexican flag as their twitter avatar but don’t want to live in Mexico. Turns out his profile page is framed by a big Irish flag. (It’s okay if you’re white.)

Your former Ward 3 City Councilor, Brian Hoose, [email protected].
