Daniel Slowick of Huntington Named to Clarkson University Dean’s List
POTSDAM, NY – Daniel J. Slowick of Huntington, Mass., a freshman majoring in chemical engineering, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2013 semester at Clarkson University.
Dean’s List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.
Kathryn Chambers of Westfield Named Presidential Scholar at Clarkson University
POTSDAM, NY – Kathryn E. Chambers of Westfield, Mass., a senior majoring in biomolecular science and chemistry, was named a Presidential Scholar for the spring 2013 semester at Clarkson University.
Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.
Amy LeFebvre Earns Dean’s List Recognition at Ohio Wesleyan University
DELAWARE, OH – Amy LeFebvre of Granville has been named to the 2013 spring semester Dean’s List at Ohio Wesleyan University.
To qualify for Dean’s List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.
Local Residents Receive Degrees at 145th WPI Commencement
WORCESTER, MA – The following local residents recently graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
Catherine Bannish of Westfield was awarded a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering with distinction.
Stephen Berselli of Westfield was awarded a bachelor of science degree in management information systems with distinction.
Travis Collins of Westfield was awarded a master of science degree in electrical and computer engineering.
Kelly Buffum of Westfield was awarded a master of science degree in materials science and engineering and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering with distinction.
A total of 1,165 degrees (781 bachelor’s degrees, 358 master’s, and 26 PhDs) were awarded during the university’s commencement ceremony on May 11, 2013, which took place outdoors on the WPI quadrangle. Additionally, 328 degrees were awarded earlier this academic year.
Thousands of students, their families and friends, trustees, and other special guests were on hand to experience the inspirational messages delivered by keynote speaker, Eric S. Lander, president and founding director of The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Honorary degrees were conferred upon Lander; Carol T. Christ, president of Smith College; and Robert H. Beckett ’57, retired chairman and CEO of Robec, Inc., and currently president and CEO of Tribo Surface Engineering.
In his commencement address, Lander told the graduates they face a number of challenges, including economic stress, a looming crisis in healthcare costs for an aging population, climate change concerns, and political upheaval.
“And yet, nonetheless, I am optimistic,” Lander said. “I am optimistic because of you – because of your generation’s ability to both dream and act – to combine theory and practice.”
Local Resident Member of Dickinson College’s Class of 2013
CARLISLE, Pa. – Mikayla Margaret Strycharz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Strycharz of Southampton, graduated from Dickinson College on May 19 with a BA in law & policy. Other recognition included: dean’s list. Strycharz is a graduate of The Williston Northampton School.
Local student selected to attend Citizenship Conference
Newton — From May 31 – June 2, the Massachusetts Youth Leadership Foundation (MYLF) presented its annual MassSTAR Citizenship Conference (Massachusetts STudents Accepting Responsibility). This year, the MYLF was pleased to announce its partnerships with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts (GFWCMA), Sodexo, and Lasell College in Newton, MA.

The Massachusetts Youth Leadership Foundation seeks to recognize and empower outstanding high school students across the Commonwealth. MYLF values the potential of young people as future leaders and provides them with the tools to create positive change in their schools and communities. MYLF invites one sophomore from every Massachusetts-accredited high school to participate in the exciting MassSTAR experience.
The MassSTAR Conference is an intensive three day event which presents student delegates with the opportunity to partner with leaders across diverse fields that include business, politics, science and the arts as they mutually explore the true meaning of themes including Responsibility, Respect, Intentionality, Initiative and Collaboration. Anderson Univeristy Spring Dean’s List
ANDERSON, SC – Tyler Prescott of Westfield was named to the Dean’s List at Anderson University for the spring semester. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average or higher for the semester.
Baylor University confers degrees on 2013 graduates
WACO, Texas – Baylor University conferred degrees on over 2,200 graduates, including Westfield’s
Jacob Paul Reed, Bachelor of Arts, Environmental Studie, during spring commencement exercises May 17-18 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus. Baylor University is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with “high research activity.”

Kevin Campbell of Westfield to Attend Clarkson University
POTSDAM, NY (06/11/2013)(readMedia)– Kevin William Campbell of Westfield, Mass., a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School, will attend Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., as a member of the Class of 2017. Campbell, who will be majoring in electrical engineering, will begin studying at Clarkson in the fall.
“We look forward to having Kevin join us on campus in August,” said Dean of Admissions Brian T. Grant.
