Lorraine R. Reed

WESTFIELD – Lorraine R. Reed, 92, of Westfield passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 12th, 2023.

Born on January 30th, 1931, to Manuel Dutra and Irene M. (Johnson) in Brockton MA, she lived in New England all of her life.

She called many places home such as Gilead ME, Gorham NH, and Holyoke MA before spending the last 28 years in Westfield MA.

Lorraine was a woman of great style and grace who always had a smile and kind words for everyone. On any day of the week, you would see her adorned in beautiful jewel tones of blues and purples, never passing on an opportunity to spend time with her loved ones. With an appreciation of music, melodic notes of classic 50’s tunes filled the house. She loved creating and was quite artistic. She spent her time pouring her love into knitting for family and friends – her sweaters and infamous unique Christmas stockings are still treasured by loved ones today. She also loved to bake delicious homemade cookies, cakes, and her famous peanut butter fudge to share with all. Lorraine always made sure you knew you were loved and poetically wrote the most sincere wishes in every birthday or anniversary card. With her love of nature, she was fond of the beach and being by the ocean, feeding her hummingbirds, and nurturing her flower gardens. She enjoyed watching the news, golf, figure skating, and love stories on the Hallmark Channel.

The family would like to thank Sue Arsenault and the Baystate Hospice team for their love and care for Lorraine.

Lorraine is survived by her greatest loves and legacy, her family – children Michael Annis and his wife Aline Kathleen Annis, Sheila (Annis) Paquette, Eileen (Annis) Gamelli and her husband Bob, David Annis and his wife Nancy, and Shawn; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, her sister Shirley (Dutra) and brother-in-law Peter Gray, niece Jacqueline Dutra, and nephews Michael Dutra, David Gray, Stephen Gray, Curtis Gray, Michael Gray, and Scott Annis.

She was predeceased by her parents, Irene M. Dutra, Manuel and Sadie Dutra, her husband Alvyn Reed, her sister Irene R. Dutra, her brother Richard T. Dutra, and her great-grandson Brennan Rudy.
