WESTFIELD – Five years following the shocking death of Westfield resident, Kevin J. Major, who died of sudden cardiac arrest, he is still being honored with a growing tradition.
The puck is set to drop on the 5th annual Kevin J. Major Memorial Hockey Tournament at Amelia Park Ice Arena August 5-9. Players, families, friends, and fans from all across the region are expected to flock to what figures to be a fun-filled, five-day event.
The tournament will begin with Jelly Belly Pools, of Chicopee/Springfield, vs. Westfield-based Clap Bomb Crew Wednesday night at 6 p.m. It is the first of a quadruple header that night.
On Thursday and Friday, games will take place, beginning at 5 p.m. A whole slate of games will continue all weekend long.
Community Day will overtake the arena Saturday. The doors will open shortly before 8 a.m. There will be raflles, a silent auction, brief CPR/AED skills training sessions, an afternoon cookout, award presentations, an ice cream social, and more.
The tournament will conclude Sunday with three championships, beginning sometime around 5 p.m., or thereafter.
