PICTURE WESTFIELD!

A “Snapshot” of Westfield will be Featured in the Athenaeum’s Jasper Rand Art Museum During March

The Westfield Athenaeum is pleased to present Picture Westfield! – a photographic “snapshot” of a typical week in the city of Westfield. This month-long exhibit will be on display in the Jasper Rand Art Museum beginning on March 1st. During the first week of October, 2011, over sixty amateur and professional local photographers, ages 7-70, documented Westfield in thousands of images. Two slide shows of more than 1,800 of these photographs will be run continually and simultaneously in the art gallery on two 70 inch flat-screen televisions on loan from Aaron’s, a lease to own store in Westfield.. The slide shows provide an extraordinary visual overview of life in Westfield. You will be amazed at all that happens throughout the city of Westfield during a typical week!
Kate Deviny, the former Special Collections and Technology Librarian at the Athenaeum (now the Director at the Great Barrington Libraries), and Eileen Doherty, a local photographer and volunteer, created and coordinated the Picture Westfield! project, gathered the images and assembled them into the slide shows. Each of the images will be archived in order to capture the history of Westfield for future use by researchers.
A reception for Picture Westfield! will be held tomorrow from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Jasper Rand Art Museum. Some of the photographers will be on hand to talk about their work. All are invited to attend. Come and see the slide shows, meet the photographers and enjoy some light refreshments.
The Athenaeum gratefully acknowledges Aaron’s of Westfield for loaning and delivering the two 70 inch flat-screen TVs, as well as the two blu-ray disc players, which will be in use in the art gallery during the month of March. Aaron’s will also be showing the slide show images at the store, located at 330 East Main Street in Westfield.
