WESTFIELD – A city man who allegedly assaulted a relative after denouncing him for stealing copper wire he had himself stolen was arraigned Friday in Westfield District Court.
Troy D. Boisseau, 25, of 553 Montgomery Road, was enjoined from making any threats or violence toward the victim and he was arraigned on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime. He was released pending an April 20 hearing after he posted $500 cash bail.
The charges stem from an incident Tuesday when a relative called city police at 11:32 a.m. to request assistance with a family dispute at a West Road farm.
Officer Charles “Chip” Kielbasa responded to the call and reported that another relative said that Boisseau had accused him of stealing copper wire which Boisseau had stolen earlier and had hidden on a family farm.
The victim told Kielbasa that when he denied knowledge of the whereabouts of the stolen copper Boisseau produced a flip blade utility knife and swung at him but he was able to evade the attack.
The victim said that he ordered Boisseau to leave and he got into his van. But the victim said that he became concerned, when Boisseau stated to rev the van’s engine, that Boisseau would attack him with the van so he picked up a length of pipe.
The victim said that Boisseau drove at him with the van but he was able to avoid it and struck the van with the pipe.
When the van stopped, he said, Boisseau exited with a baseball bat and another fight began.
Boisseau did not prevail in the fight, his relative said, and eventually gave up, saying he would leave.
The victim said he disengaged from Boisseau who left in his van after threatening to arrange for someone to “kill” the victim.
A search of the area did not reveal Boisseau’s whereabouts and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Boisseau was arraigned Friday under Chapter 265 Section 15A(b)of the Massachusetts General Laws which provides for punishment by the District Court “by imprisonment for not more than 21/2 years in a house of correction or by a fine of not more than $1,000.”
