MAR16 Granville death (DJM)

GRANVILLE – A resident was found dead in his Dickinson Drive home yesterday by emergency responders. The cause of the resident’s death is under investigation by state police.
Granville Acting Fire Chief Scott Loomis said the department received a 911 call around 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Granville firefighters, police and an ambulance were dispatched to the Dickinson Drive residence. Southwick Fire Department personnel also responded under mutual aid, but were not needed and returned to their station.
Loomis said the resident, a male in his 60s, was home alone. A person checking on him made the 911 call for emergency response assistance.
“The person entered the house and heard an alarm sounding and found him unresponsive,” said Loomis.
Responders suspected carbon monoxide may have triggered the alarm. However, Loomis said, no evidence of carbon monoxide was found by emergency responders.
“We went in with our meters and found no carbon monoxide,” he said. “The early stages of response were intense because of the possibility of carbon monoxide, but we discovered the alarm was the smoke detector. But, there was no smoke.”
Loomis said police are investigating the incident, which is not being treated as suspicious.
