WESTFIELD – Marcia (Shumsky) Rogers, 74, (1943-2017) passed away on December 12, 2017; with her husband of over 50 years, Frederick “Fred” M. Rogers at her side.
Marcia was born on October 4, 1943 in Springfield to the late Max and Ann (Zarr) Shumsky. She was a graduate of both Classical High School and Westfield State College (now Westfield State University). She taught in the Springfield School System. Marcia was also the Director of Creative Learning Center, Westfield. Marcia and her son Michael, studied violin together under the Suzuki Program (which led Michael to create his own music).
In 1979, her family relocated to the Pleasanton, California area. She was last employed by Dey Laboratories as an Accounts Representative retiring in 2009; moving back to the Westfield area in 2010, settling at the American Inn in Southwick.
Marcia was a communicant of St. Mary’s Parish, Westfield. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Rogers (2009) ; a brother, Robert Shumsky; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou (Rogers) Haughey , Carol Ann Rogers and Lynn Shumsky. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers-in-law, Stephen Rogers of Wethersfield, CT, James Haughey and his wife Irene of Chicopee; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM-4:00PM on Sunday (Dec. 17th, 2017) in the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, (Highway 10/202), Southwick. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30AM on Monday (Dec. 18, 2017) in St. Mary’s Church, 30 Bartlett St., Westfield. EVERYONE IS ASKED TO PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY AT THE CHURCH. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 203 Southampton Road, Westfield.
