WESTFIELD – Marcus Irving Lawson, 103, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 15, 1909 in Warehouse Point, CT to the late Irving and Ann (Calendar) Lawson.
He was raised in Warehouse Point, Connecticut. During high school he worked for American Sumatra Tobacco Company and played baseball for the first organized high school team. He graduated from Warehouse Point High School as his class valedictorian. After high school he was employed by Travelers Life Insurance Co. and spent 44 years with them as an underwriter, retiring in 1970. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII serving in Corpus Christi, TX. He lived in Glastonbury, Ct for many years and then moved to South Peacham, VT and has lived in Westfield for the past 12 years. He was an avid Red Sox fan and collected stamps, post cards and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Marcus leaves his son, Thomas Lawson and his wife Carol of Westfield; his daughter, Chrystel (Lawson) Messenger of Rockford, IL. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia (Lawson) Courtney in 2010. He leaves his grandchildren, David Johnson and his wife Robyn, Sally Gellock and her husband Joseph and Susan Hampton and her husband Scott, Karl Lawson, Wade Lawson and his wife Robin, Patricia Fralix and her husband Robert, George O’Brien and his wife Candice and Michael O’Brien and his wife Adrianna. He also leaves thirteen great-grandchildren, Heidi, Melissa, Jamie, Jennifer, James, Courtney, Samantha, Taylor, Kori, Evan, Michael, Alena and Laurel and five great-granddaughters, Haleigh, Nicole, Kameryn, Brianna and Evelyn and his best friend, his miniature dachshund, Ginger.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, September 5th in Barnet, VT.
