Maria T. Crowson

BELLINGHAM, MA – Maria Themistocles Anastasovites Crowson passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 10th, 2022, surrounded by her family at the age of 89. Her beloved husband of 37 years, Robert Crowson, predeceased her in 2011. She is survived by her son Tom and his fiancé Suzanne of Wrentham, her daughter Lisa and her husband Craig of Westfield, 7 grandchildren Anthony, Niko, Mark, Lexie, Juliana, Kaitlyn and Eric and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born May 22,1933, the daughter of Themistocles Anastasovites and Kalliope Aivalis Anastasovites, she was raised in Springfield, MA. She was a graduate of Commerce High School, the Charles F. Gaugh School of Business and the American International College of Accounting in Springfield. She resided in Westfield for over thirty years, where she raised her son and daughter, and worked for the law firm Bozenhard, Socha and Ely for 35 years.

Maria was a wonderfully loving and caring mother, wife and volunteer member serving many organizations and boards. She was a faithful and longtime member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Philoptochos, Evangelismos chapter in Springfield where she served on the board for many years and was also the treasurer. She also founded the “Over 60 Club” and served as the Director of Activities and was involved in numerous fundraisers and social events. With her talent and enthusiasm, she enhanced the events and co-chaired many of them. She also volunteered for the Bay State Medical Center’s Cardiac Health Program and served on the Board of Community Development in Westfield.

In 2011, she moved to Bellingham, MA to be closer to her family during her retirement. Maria enjoyed skiing, sewing, cooking Greek foods, traveling in her RV crisscrossing North America, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren, on the beaches of Narragansett, Rhode Island seashore, due to her and their great love of the ocean, sun and sand.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sherman-Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield on Sunday, August 28th from 3:00-5:00 PM, followed by a short memorial service given by Father Alex Chetsas at the funeral home at 5:00 P.M.
