Marie F. Gallo

Westfield – Marie Fitzgerald Gallo left this world singing on July 11, 2018. She was born on October 19, 1930 to Ray and Katheryn Fitzgerald, 364 days after her “Irish” twin sister, Claire Case. She was predeceased by her brothers Ray and John (Specky) Fitzgerald and her daughter Christine Gallo Hatton. The Westfield High cheerleader married her football player, Paul J. Gallo Jr., on October 12, 1950. They started off in Worcester and made it through the Tornado of 1953. She gave birth to Lynn (Paul Savage) and Paul Jr., “Peeg” (Ruth Martelli). They moved back to Westfield on Lindbergh Blvd to fill the house with Christine (Lindsey Ayers & Kelly Hatton), Katherine, “Kay”(David Gogol) and Steven (Joann Gallo). As that house overflowed, they moved to Holland Ave., where Joann (Tim LaPlante) and David were born. Although David was here for only 2 ½ years, he always lived in her heart. “Re” loved spending her summers with her sister Claire and all their kids in Cape Cod. In August, the place to be was Saratoga. She also traveled to Ireland, the Caribbean, and Wyoming to visit her daughter, Kay. She played pitch with her Gal Pals weekly for over 60 years and enjoyed the Tuesday night pitch league at the Sons of Erin. She worked for the Westfield Housing Authority as the Tenant Selector for over 22 years, retiring in 1994. Re leaves 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. One of Re’s pinnacles in her life was to be able to reunite with her grandchild, Kristen Decorie Guthrie. Marie had a spirit about her that was contagious. Her house always had an open door. She was an easy-going yet strong, funny, stubborn Irish woman who was so easy to love. Her wisdom could fill a book; “Today is the day you worried about yesterday and all is well”. The family wishes to thank the Genesis Health Care for all their wonderful care.
