Marilyn Hiers

GRANVILLE – Marilyn Gracie Hiers, born Marilyn Hughs Gracie in Lowell, MA to George and Althea Gracie of Billerica MA on May 30, 1929, died on June 30, 2013, peacefully at home in Granville at age 84.
Known for her kindness and intelligence, Marilyn graduated at the top of her class at Billerica High School in 1947, where she was also an accomplished athlete and a musician. She attended Colby College, graduating in 1951 with a pre-med degree. Following college, she lived in Hartford, CT, working at Hartford Hospital for more than a decade as a laboratory technician – a job she loved. Following her marriage to Warner C. Hiers, of Granville, they eventually settled and raised their family in Granville, where she was active in the Granville Federated Church, and involved in the community, including serving on the Town Zoning Board of Appeals, and acting as treasurer for the Library Club.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Warner C. Hiers, and her children;  George C. Hiers, and his wife, Heidi, of Gaithersburg, MD,  Warner C. Hiers, Jr., and his wife, Kim, of Torrington, CT,  and Alison H. Micucci, and her husband, Mark, of Emerson, NJ; and her beloved grandchildren,  Anna, Madeline and Griffin Hiers, of Torrington, CT, and Matthew  Micucci, of Emerson, NJ.  She is also survived by her brother, George Gracie, and his wife, Connie, of Billerica MA.
A memorial service will be held at the Granville Federated Church, 16 Granby Road, Granville MA, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.  All are welcome for refreshments immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.  Burial will be private.
