RUSSELL – Louise May (Hawley) Wojcik, 91, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, in a local nursing home. She was born in Russell on June 13, 1921, to the late William and Dorothy (Monson) Hawley.She grew up in Blandford and attended local schools and was a graduate of Westfield High School. Louise worked at Antoinette’s, Strathmore Paper Company and retired as the Postmaster in Woronoco. She also was co-owner and bookkeeper of Wojcik’s Gulf Service Station on Russell Road in Westfield with her husband Carol. She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Russell, now Holy Family Parish, and was the organist for 13 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carol A. Wojcik, Sr. in 2001 and by her son, Carol A. Wojcik, Jr. in 1989. She leaves her children, Janice M. Wheeler of Zepherhills FL, Michael F. Wojcik and his wife Rayma of Blandford, Mary L. Hamel and her husband Donald of Zepherhills FL, Paulette A. Hall and her husband Dennis of Westfield, Jeffrey J. Wojcik and his wife Lisa of Blandford, and Sherry L. Chaffee and her husband Otis of Russell. Louise also leaves 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, her daughter-in-law Katherine Wojcik of Westfield, and her brother Edwin Hawley of Missouri. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Vernon, David, and William, and her son-in-law Charlie Wheeler. The family would like to thank Katie Guyette for the care that she gave to Louise over the past 6 weeks. Thanks also to the staff of Noble Hospital and the Governor’s Center for their compassionate care.
The funeral for Louise will be held on Thursday, April 11th at 9:00 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by A Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Family Parish, Route 20 in Russell at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Russell Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
