Mary Elizabeth Murphy

WESTFIELD: Mary Murphy, 83, (1939 – 2022) passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on January 15, 1939, in Westfield, MA to the late Harry Fish and Molly (Mahoney) Fish.

Mary attended Westfield High School, Class of 1957.

Mary was an avid gardener and expert self-made decorator. She enjoyed decorating for every holiday season and then some. Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church (OLBS) in Westfield, MA. Mary was part of the OLBS Sodality, the Red Hatters, Birthday Girls, the Pani’s, and the Cape Girls with her friends. She always loved to play cards with her friends and family from a young age, during these games she always had a smile especially when she “set” you.

Mary started her working career in Westfield at Stanley Home Products. Then after more than 20 years retired from (Pryofax, Petrolane) Amerigas, where she met her late husband, Francis “Pete” Murphy and many good friends. Mary most recently worked in Dining Services at Westfield State University for over 20 years. While at Westfield State, Mary learned the names and greeted each of her dining guests as they entered the dining hall. Mary enjoyed her time with students, learning about each one of her young guests, offering comfort and guidance each day. Mary’s family was her greatest achievement, and she always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed all outside actives from camping, fishing, boating and so much more, which all included laughing.

Mary is predeceased by her parents Harry and Molly Fish, her husband Pete Murphy, and her four brothers: Jack Fish, Bud Fish, Bill Fish, and Don Fish.

Survivors include her daughter Cheryl Wagner and Butch (husband) of Feeding Hills, MA, her sister Connie Hines of Ft. Worth, TX, her grandchildren Carin Dulin and Peter (husband) of Granby, CT, and Erik Wagner and Gabriella Spear of Agawam, MA, along with other family members, and great friends who have shared their lives since her childhood years.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on May 3rd from 5-7 p.m. at Westfield Funeral Home, 4 Princeton St, Westfield, MA. The funeral will begin from Westfield Funeral Home on May 4th at 10 a.m. proceeding to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd., Westfield, MA for a funeral mass. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd., Westfield, MA 01085 in Mary’s honor will be appreciated.
